Free Rainwater Harvesting Workshop with Gord Baird from Eco-Sense
November 11, 2017 @ 12:30 pm - 4:00 pm
This workshop will cover rainwater catchment (overview, design, materials, storage, pumping, filtration, and potable water policy in the CRD) and Responsible water alternatives (greywater, compost toilets, soil and landscape and food systems for a changing climate).
Gord Baird is an American Rain Catchment Systems Association (ARCSA) Accredited Professional and the co-creator and owner builder of the award-winning Eco-Sense home, located in the Highlands of Victoria, BC, awarded Living Building Challenge recognition in 2010.
This accomplishment combines a net zero carbon, zero waste home, with integrated sustainable systems and a net-zero water balance. Impressive when you consider that it includes a Nursery, small scale farm, and produces 90% of their family’s food. They incorporate a food forest into their perennial food systems, covering over 300 species of plants including some 65 nut trees and 80 fruit trees upon a drought-prone hilly outcrop, and employ rainwater harvesting, grey water, compost toilets and ecological soil and landscape systems.
He connects the drops through research, education, consulting, policy and practical application.
This Galiano Conservancy Association Workshop has been made possible through funding by the Canada 150 fund, Community Foundations of Canada and the Victoria Foundation.
