Walkalong 2018 Sneak Peak!

IN 4 SHORT DAYS our 6th annual Walkalong for Learning will be underway at the Millard Learning Centre! 

Time and Location 

Saturday, September 1st. Registration opens at 12:30pm, and the walk begins at 1pm.

Galiano Conservancy Millard Learning Centre (10825 Porlier Pass Road, Galiano Island)

New Routes 

Walkers will have the opportunity to blaze brand new trails proudly built by the Conservancy’s hard-working board members, staff and summer interns! Stationed along the trail are 11 talented musicians whose tunes will whisk you away as you walk through breathtaking bluffs, forests, gardens and beaches!

Paths will also include interpretation stops for the curious walker, water stations (bring your own bottle to minimize your carbon footprint!) and a silent walk — where the natural sounds of the Coastal Douglas Fir Ecosystem can be enjoyed! With a variety of lengths and difficulties, Walkalong trails can be enjoyed by everyone! See the map below for a sneak peak!

Tasty treats!

Martine will be returning again this year with her fabulous cuisine! Non-alcoholic drinks, meals, snacks and a tasty surprise (provided by Loren Wilkinson) will be available throughout the day! Food and drink purchases are CASH ONLY!

Water stations for the walking route will be located at the Learning Centre, Chrystal Cove and Forest Garden. Please bring your own water bottle to minimize our waste production! 

Silent Auction 

Several art pieces from well-loved local artists will on sale during our silent auction inside the Learning Centre building. The Silent Auction will close at 5pm.

Parking & Facilities 

Parking attendants will greet you at the top of the Learning Centre and direct you to the designated parking area. Parking is limited! We encourage participants to be eco-friendly and carpool or book the Community Bus

The Learning Centre building is equipped with full restroom facilities. Along the walking trail there are outhouses located near the Learning Centre building and at the Chrystal Cove.

Registration day-of will take place at the registration tent located by the Learning Centre building! All walkers (including those who have pre-registered online or with us at the office) must check in and sign safety waivers at the registration tent!

To facilitate registration on the day of, we encourage participants to pre-register using our online Canada Helps page (below) or contacting us at the office (250-539-2424)! Registration is by donation.

All proceeds go towards the Conservancy’s education bursary fund which assists underprivileged youth gain access to our single day and multi-day nature education programs. Emily earned a BSc. in Environmental Science from Royal Roads University. Emily has worked with a diversity of environmental entities in the clean technology industry, in social-environmental non-profits and in academic communities. As a scientist and artist she combines her technical knowledge and creative approach to teach about unique pacific-northwest ecosystems and to explore the complex relationships between people and the environment.
