For the fourth year running, the Galiano Conservancy is celebrating international Make a Difference Week as part of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.
Volunteer days will take place on June 6 and 7 at the Millard Learning Centre. Participants will get a chance to learn about and work with native plants from the nursery to the forest.
Day 1: We will be moving native plants and setting up sustainable watering infrastructure (water mats with a wicking system) which will help us to greatly reduce the water needed to care for the plants that we grow for restoration projects and for individuals to plant in their homes.
Day 2: We will be weeding, mulching and caring for the Nuts’a’maat Forage Forest.
Participants should come prepared for the weather in comfortable clothes and shoes that they can get dirty. Please bring your own drinking water and all food needed. Friday you will have access to potable water but there will be no snacks. Galiano is only accessible by ferry so please plan accordingly with the ferry schedule. There is the potential for camping available for participants that want to do both days. Those who are interested can email nursery@galianoconservancy.ca for details.
