International Make a Difference Week – June 5 – 13

2021 – 2030 is the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.


To celebrate the launch of this global initiative, the Galiano Conservancy will be hosting several hands-on volunteer events as part of Make a Difference Week, from June 5-13.  Join us to learn more about ecological restoration and how you can get involved locally!

Nuts’a’maat Forage Forest
Volunteer Restoration Day –
Wed. June 9, 10am – 2pm

Enjoy an introduction and tour of our Forage Forest, help remove invasive species and plant native wildflowers.

Chrystal Creek Watershed
Volunteer Restoration Day –
Friday June 11, 10am – 2pm

Join us in removing debris from over a century of human occupation from the site in anticipation of a full site restoration in the fall.

Food Forest & Nursery
Volunteer Permaculture Day –
Thurs. June 10, 10am – 2pm

Be surrounded by nature with your hands in the dirt for this day of weeding, harvesting and planting.

Zuker Shore Access
Restoration Volunteer Day –
Sun. June 13, 10am – 2pm

Join a multi-partner effort to restore the Zuker shore access along Active Pass Dr., led by UVic students and focused on pollinators.

Location

All events (with the exception of the Zuker restoration day, Sun. June 13) will take place at the Galiano Conservancy’s Millard Learning Centre at 10825 Porlier Pass Road, Galiano Island.

Please park near the entrance at our Program Centre. Galiano Conservancy staff will direct you from there.

What to Bring

Please bring a water and a packed lunch / snacks to eat when we take a break, usually around noon.

Please bring clothing appropriate for outdoor work! Long-sleeved shirts, pants, a hat, and boots are highly recommended.

The Galiano Conservancy will provide any necessary tools, gloves, and safety equipment.
