Education

Thank you, Teachers! See you in September.

The 2016-17 school year was busy, productive and exciting for us here at Galiano Conservancy. We welcomed many new groups to Galiano Island and shared with them hands-on experiences in forest restoration, intertidal life, forest gardening, and much more.

We participated in an amazing conference this spring, Children and Nature in Vancouver, and also took part in an EEPSA professional development evening earlier in the year.

We debuted a brand new website this year, and we’re continuing to improve it—when you book you next program with us, you’ll be able to complete your booking online

One of our proudest accomplishments was the debut of Restoration Field School. Based at our stunning 188-acre Millard Learning Centre, this intensive experience is a unique and award-winning program for restoring an ecosystem to its flourishing potential. In Module 1, students learn the skills required to make a forest healthy again—through hands-on forest mapping, surveying and orienteering. Later in the season, students go into greater depth with Module 2.

Looking forward to summer

We’ll continue offering our signature hands-on programming this summer, but we’ll be shifting focus to community groups: day camps, scouts, brownies, and even a few adult groups. If you or your students are looking for a great place to spend a day (or three) learning skills to save the planet, think of Galiano Conservancy Association.

We’re already booking our school programs for 2017-2018. Please reserve your spot early!

With sincere thanks for a wonderful school year,

Reed, Brit and the rest of the Galiano Conservancy team.
